Welcome to the Land of Information!

Hello, user, and welcome to the Internet! This webpage is designed to be a guide for those of you who are still new to and getting used to the way the Internet works. The Internet can be a big and scary place when not navigated carefully. Here you will find many helpful tips and valuable resources that will aid in your safety and sanity online. First of all, to the right, you will find a few helpful links, which will take you to different webpages. Don't worry, the ones to the right are safe links that will take you to helpful (or even better, entertaining) websites across the Internet, but first, you should know a couple of the most basic safety rules on the Internet:

  1. If it doesn't look safe, it probably isn't.

There are lot's of things on the Internet that are marketed right to you, targeting those who don't have much experience on the Internet and scamming them by taking their credit card information, or, even worse, tricking you into downloading a virus, a nasty little peice of code that infects your computer and does who knows what. As you get more experienced on the Internet, you learn the obvious tells these pathetic scams, but, for now, you should just stick with what looks safe, not desirable. Some of these scams are "too good to be true" advertisements, and some of them are very convincing. It's alright, after a while you get pretty impervious to their cheap ploys and learn how to navigate around them.

  2. Protect yourself.

Again, the Internet is a place where information is shared. Everywhere. Anything you put on the Internet is there for good, and can be accessed by anyone who really wants to (trust me, there are plenty of people with the knowledge and/or determination to do anything they want on the on the Internet), whether or not you choose to remove it. Some people will do anything to acquire, keep, and use your own personal information. Don't put anything on the Internet about you unless it is absolutely necessary or you are 100% confident that it is safe. No one can hold your hand on the Internet, so you have to watch your own back.

  3. Don't fall in the void.

By "the void" I mean the hole of eternity that is this place. Without moderation, watching cat videos for 5 hours straight can become pretty addicting, and a regular habit. Use the Internet as you best see fit, whether it be for 5 minutes or 5 hours, reading news reports or watching the latest music videos on Youtube, casual or obsessive, but don't say you haven't been warned. The Internet is a very strange place, with very diverse users, subcultures, media types, environments, and even general attitudes. Be prepared to see some strange things when you enter a strange new region of the Internet.
